Together with its academic partner, the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre is now a large and comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, treating over 50,000 NHS and self-funded patients each year. As a centre of cancer excellence, the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre is internationally renowned for its ground-breaking research, pioneering new cancer treatments and technologies, and expertise in cancer diagnosis and education.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Centre, together with the ICR, is a National Institute for Health Research-designated UK Cancer Biomedical Research Centre, an award it first received in 2006. The hospital was awarded the accolade again in 2016 and will receive £43 million over five years to support research into different areas of oncology and cancer treatment.

Royal Marsden Hospital Chelsea Campus
The Chelsea Campus is located in the heart of London's museum and shopping district. The hospital is just a few minutes' walk from the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History and Science Museum and the internationally renowned department stores Harrods and Harvey Nichols as well as Chelsea's famous King's Road. The hospital is easily accessible by public transport, including South Kensington Underground Station and several local buses.
Royal Marsden Hospital Sutton Campus
The Sutton Campus is located on the outskirts of the town of Sutton in the London Borough of Surrey. The site is linked to local transport (including rail, road and air). This large campus is home to the Royal Marsden Centre for Molecular Pathology, the Oak Children and Youth Centre and the UK's first MR Linac linear accelerator - one of only seven in the world.
Since 2004, the hospital's charity, the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, has helped to raise more than £100 million to build surgical classrooms, a diagnostic centre and a drug development centre. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, became Director of the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre in 2007, maintaining a long-standing link between the British Royal Family and the hospital.
Education and support for staff are at the heart of the Royal Marsden's success. "The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Practice is the UK's best-selling nursing textbook and the Royal Marsden School provides specialist training for over 700 nursing and allied health professionals each year.
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, has been Dean of the Royal Marsden since May 2007, after his mother, Princess Diana, held the position. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, has visited the hospital on a number of occasions in both public and private capacities, most recently in January 2018, when he participated in minimally invasive robotic surgery performed by surgeons.
